About

About me….well, I am a 30-something mother of 4, with a grandchild on the way (my eldest is late teens). I am a mostly stay-at-home mother with a very part-time job. As my husband works 11 hours shifts a lot of the time it is practically impossible for me to do paid work, and having calculated that with the tax credits system we would actually be worse off if I work a proper job it makes more sense for me to stay at home.

My children are Daughter 1 aged 16, Son aged 9, Daughter 2 aged 6 and Daughter 3 aged 1. D1 is expecting her first child in the summer, by which time she will be 17 and will have finished her course at college. (Not bad timing really, although at least a year earlier that I would have liked it all to happen). S is “on the autistic spectrum”, a suitably vague diagnosis, but having read a lot of things in my efforts to find answers for him I am pretty convinced that Asperger’s Syndrome fits him very well and am in the process of attempting to get his diagnosis firmed up, get him statemented and get him some properly suitable education.

D2 is a crazy little thing, borderline hyperactive, although this has improved slightly since I discovered that artificial sweeteners might protect her teeth but they actually make her bonkers, so I have cut them out. I am about to move her from her state school to a local free independent school. I am sure to rant about education at some stage, it is a subject dear to my heart and one that is currently making me really angry.

D3 is only 1, and she is a pretty good baby. She is very mischievous, has a fantastic little grin and has, against all expectation, the most incredible, crazy mop of curls. As my Other Half and I both have dead straight hair, it was a surprise! The oddest thing, though, is that her hair goes straight when she isn’t well. Not really a basis for taking her to the doctor, but a very good indicator for us of how she’s feeling.

Additionally we have a menagerie of 2 dogs, a cat, 3 rats and 2 hamsters. I am hoping to cut back on this number somewhat, partly because they now outnumber us, but mostly because I want to breed my dog and I need somewhere to put the puppies until they go.

We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful area, with a farm on the other side of the road. There are cows and horses, fields and trees, it’s great for the kids. Wouldn’t live anywhere else now – couldn’t. We’ve been well and truly spoiled.

That just about covers all the about there is about me and mine I think. Enjoy the blog, if you don’t like it, don’t come back. Doesn’t bother me either way :)
